Led by Shri Vivekji and Shrimati Sharadaji — Written by Udit Thawani
From October 30th to November 1st, CHYKs from across North America joined CHYK Ann Arbor in their annual CHYK retreat. Led by Vivekji of Niagara Falls and Sharadaji of Ann Arbor, the retreaters explored what it means to “Be” by studying Bhaja Govindam as written by Shri Adi Shankarachaya. Vivekji shared a message of urgency that we need to stop “Be”-coming happy and start “Be”-ing happiness.
This retreat was completely facilitated online using Zoom, as retreaters took part in discourses, discussions, and various other activities including a virtual escape room, a dance workshop, arts and crafts, and writing activities. Despite the online medium, retreaters were able to make meaningful connections with others, and grow together such that the feeling of community was not lost.
Retreaters celebrated Halloween together during a mystery-themed escape room activity, and were dressed up in costumes as they worked together to solve the mystery. Led by one of the CHYKs, retreaters learned to just “Be” and not worry about judgement as they tried to keep up with fast-paced bhangra choreography during the dance workshop. Through the arts and crafts and writing activities, retreaters practiced and began to understand firsthand the importance of reflection in our journey to “Be”-ing happiness. The CHYKs in attendance are ever-grateful to the guru-shishya-parampara for their knowledge and guidance in these difficult times.
