Manah Shodanam

Jnana Class

9:00pm-10:00pm ET Tuesdays

An immersive, practice-centered journey through Swami Tejomayananda’s Manah Śodhanam (purification of mind).

Across 32 weeks, seekers will study, apply, and reflect on Vedantic methods for purifying the mind so that knowledge “sticks” and inner freedom becomes lived reality. Core ideas include how ignorance and impurities veil the Self and how training the mind turns it from adversary to ally, leading to an integrated personality (body–mind–intellect).

Learning happens in pods that persist for the full course—Parents, Devis, Seniors, Young/Working Professionals, and University Students—so activities and case work are always relevant to each life stage. Weekly sessions follow a consistent rhythm: 20 minutes discourse, 35 minutes guided pod activities, 5 minutes closing takeaways.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  1. Explain how ignorance and mental impurities obstruct the direct recognition of your true nature, and describe the mind’s role as friend or enemy.
  2. Diagnose attachments (rāga–dveṣa) and implement “letting go” strategies to free attention for genuine inquiry (jijñāsā).
  3. Differentiate karma, vāsanā, and personality tendencies; apply viveka (discernment) and vairāgya (dispassion) in real choices; cultivate a calm, receptive mind so knowledge abides.
  4. Practice each of the six purifiers of Verse 7—tapas, yajña, dāna, japa, tīrtha, vrata—with sāttvic bhāva, stamina, and mindful intent.
  5. Use vicāra (inquiry) as the primary purifier and apply the Vedantic inquiry model—pratijñā (claim), hetu (reason), dṛṣṭānta (example), anubhava (verification)—to personal dilemmas.
  6. Strengthen śraddhā (faith) and craft a transformative saṅkalpa (resolve) supported by bhakti, turning intention into sustained practice.
  7. Adopt a sattvic lifestyle (inputs, routines, boundaries) that supports steady practice and emotional clarity.
  8. Evaluate progress using signs of a purer mind—greater calm, focus, cheerfulness—and design a post-course blueprint for abidance.

Key outcomes:

  • A clear post-course blueprint (rhythms, triggers, supports) aimed at independent joy beyond the classroom.
  • A personal toolkit of purifiers customized to your context, plus a simple daily routine you can sustain.
  • Confidence using vicāra to navigate attachment, ego, and habit loops in real time.
