Detailed Notes

Core Notes from Last Week:

  • Satsang on dedication and trust
  • My stuckness can only be fixed by you, Shri Hanumanji
    • Our thoughts want one thing, actions want another, words say another
  • Fear and indulgence lead to escapism and forgetfulness – “I will do this later
  • Life should evolve from me to “meaning”
  • Dedication gives direction to our effort, and trust gives rest to our heart
  • Control is an illusion
  • Grace flows where effort and surrender meet
  • With planning, the eraser on your pencil is symbolic of trust – Bhagavan has a master plan that we work through from his Grace

RAW from Last Week: plan your week in pencil

  • Planning should be intentional and we should put parameters on planning – otherwise, constantly planning can lead to anxiety
  • When you plan your day out, you feel lighter
  • When you plan your day out, you waste less time

Core Notes from This Week:

Tapasvi = ascetic, but practically, simple in lifestyle

Raja = king, the one who is most responsible or has the most responsibilities

Shri Hanumana – you carried out all tasks of Shri Rama with grace

Shri Rama = the most responsible and lives the most simply

  • The verse means Shri Hanumana accomplished all the tasks of Shri Rama, the ascetic king

But the extrapolation teaches us – there is so much more depth to this verse

  • It’s not just describing a Raja and a Bhakta
  • Shri Rama is the embodiment of living simply and living up to responsibility
  • Shri Rama doesn’t reject life, he carries life lightly – when he was leaving Ayodhya, he traded gold adornments for bark and does it with such dignity
  • Puts sap in his hair to protect Shri Lakshmana and Sita. He does it for practicality
    • Tapasvi – living simply because one’s heart is clear
    • Shri Rama delegates, Shri Hanumana delivers
    • Leaping across oceans, Shri Hanumana is propelled by devotion
      • Freedom in clarity. Shri Hanumana, didn’t chase positions or possessions because his purpose was clear
      • Responsibilities stop feeling like a burden and start feeling like Seva

Never acts out of doubt or pride, only alignment

Simplifying is turning to the essence, turning to joy, independent joy. When we simplify, our purpose becomes more clear. Our actions become more effective

Self development isn’t about doing more, it’s about how we are doing what we are doing – not the volume of our activity

  • When we chase more, the result is fatigue not fulfillment
  • All we do is seva, but that must be backed by intention

We all move based on the clock to tell us when to move, instead we need to look at the compass to tell us where to go

Meaning of Chaupai 27 – Clear, Connect, Continue

  • Clear = simplify your path; how are you spending your time? Where is that time going to waste? Simplify your path to being joyous. Life feels lighter
  • Connect = Aligning your efforts when you have that simplified path. Remember why you are doing what you are doing and who you are doing it for. It makes the littlest action into the biggest task to bring you joy. Your attention and attitude need to be aligned. Life has more meaning
  • Continue = that clarity needs to be sustained. To revisit the compass to make sure it’s pointing to Bhagavan Rama is required. We get disoriented very frequently – orient once a day, once a week, once a month at least. Even when we drive, we still tap the screen to zoom out to see if we have other routes available to us. If there is, we reroute, if not we recenter.

Grace flows through our growth when our compass is always pointed towards Bhagavan Shri Rama

RAW for this week: declutter one area of your life. Physical, mental or emotional – a schedule, a space, or a habit.
